Appointed in 2011
Term 2011-2017

Nicole Carroll of Carroll is an attorney and a long-time supporter of young people and the public education system in Iowa.  While her children were in school, she served 12 years on the Carroll Community School Board with the last six as president, as well as an attorney coach for Mock Trial and as a coach for Odessey of the Mind, among other roles.  She currently volunteers her time as a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)  for abused and neglected children in Carroll County.  She also chairs the Parks, Recreation and Culture Board for the City of Carroll.

Ms. Carroll, who grew up in Story City, earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University. As a student, she also worked part-time at the ISU Extension Information Service writing press releases for use by newspapers and radio stations statewide.  After a stint as a lifestyle editor for the Boone News-Republican, she attended law school at the University of Iowa.  Upon graduation, Ms. Carroll worked as a corporate attorney for First Wisconsin Corporation, a bank holding company, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while her husband completed his three year residency in family medicine.  Ms. Carroll continues to be a member of the bar in Wisconsin (inactive) and in Iowa.

When it was time to find a place to settle and raise their family, the Carrolls wanted to return to Iowa, in part because of the excellent public education system, including higher education, they had enjoyed growing up in Iowa.  They wanted the same outstanding educational opportunities for their children.

Not only do both Nicole and her husband hold undergraduate degrees from Iowa State University, and professional degrees from the University of Iowa, but all four of their children also earned undergraduate degrees from ISU and all four of them are currently working on, or just graduated with, professional degrees from the University of Iowa.  To complete the picture, the Carrolls’ only daughter-in-law holds a teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa, and recently delivered their first grandchild at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Regents institutions have been and continue to be a big part of Carroll family life.

Regent Carroll's term on the Board expires April 30, 2017.
