Bob Donley was appointed Executive Director of the Iowa Board of Regents in May 2008. Prior to his appointment, he held the position of Chief of Staff and Operations for the Board of Governors and Chancellor Mark B. Rosenberg for the State University System of Florida which is the governing Board for the 11 public universities in the state of Florida.
Previously, Donley served in a variety of key administrative position with Florida International University (FIU), including Chief of Staff to the President, Chief of Staff to the Senior Vice President for Student Affairs and Human Resources, Chief of Staff to the Executive Vice President for Business, Finance, and Governmental Relations, and Director of Public Affairs for the Executive Vice President and Provost for Academic Affairs. Prior to joining FIU, Donley worked in Washington, D.C. where he served as the National Executive Director of the Samaritans, a national nonprofit suicide-prevention organization. During his public service in his native state of Rhode Island, he served as the Deputy Secretary of State and Chief of Staff for the Department of State. During that time, he was elected as a nonpartisan delegate to the Rhode Island Constitutional Convention.
Donley serves as member of the Executive Committee for the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO) and is a member of the National Association of System Heads (NASH).
Donley is completing a doctoral program in Higher Education Administration at Northeastern University in Massachusetts. He holds a master's degree in Education from Saint Joseph's College in Maine, and bachelor's degrees in Political Science and History from the University of Rhode Island.
